Front Garden

Front garden for retired couple, planted with pink and purple flowers - creating an interesting garden for them to enjoy as they walk up to the front door

This front garden was created for a retired couple who wanted to have something to enjoy as they walked up to the front door.

The existing front garden had a stunning tree, filled with blossom in spring. The rest of it was laid to lawn.

They were looking for year round interest to enjoy as they arrived home, got out of the car and walked up to the front door. Something to stop for a moment and watch a bee or a butterfly enjoying the flowers.

The colours they loved were predominantly pink, highlighted with a few purples and the odd highlight of deep red (in a blue tone).

The tree was the start pointing for the design, as understandably it was staying. They also wanted to keep some of the lawn.

Give the features to keep and the shape of the garden, the new borders were designed in ovals radiating from the centre of the tree. The centre border was designed around the shadow that the tree created once it was in leaf.

The garden now has year round colour, including daphne, cyclamen and Sarcococca (Christmas box) for winter colour and scent. The rest of the year the garden is filled with pinks, purples and small highlights of red from Astrantia.
